Species Information & Weatherboards Overview

Timspec stock a whole range of Weatherboard, Profiles & Mouldings, Soakers, and Fasteners specifically for the Building and Construction market.  Where we don’t have a specific profile in stock we can usually run-to-order within 15 days.

We generally supply weatherboards in three species: Accoya wood, Western Red Cedar weatherboards and Radiata Pine weatherboards

Accoya wood Weatherboards
Accoya wood represents the generation in timber, it is Radiata Pine which has undergone a modification process called acetylation, resulting in a very durable, very stable timber product.

Grades: We stock Accoya in A1 Clears, the highest grade available.

Durability: Accoya wood is Class 1 durable and guaranteed not to rot for 50 years in above ground situations. This is all possible due to the long established and well proven wood modification technique called acetylation.

Supply: All our Accoya wood is FSC Certified, having been grown in repsonsibly managed New Zealand forest plantations.

Western Red Cedar Weatherboards
Cedar is recognised as a fabulous naturally stable and durable timber, eminently suitable for cladding.  It is used widely in New Zealand, Australia and throughout North America.  Its light weight combined with the very stable nature of the species means it is hard to beat.

Grades: In Cedar we offer mainly  “Number 2 Clears and Better” grade (also called PC1) although we do supply some of the “No4 Clears” (PC2) grade from time to time.

Durability: Western Red Cedar is naturally durable (Class 2) so no preservative treatment is required.

Supply: The majority of our Cedar stock is FSC or PEFC certified.

Radiata Pine Weatherboards
We currently offer Radiata Pine mainly in 150x25mm and 200x25mm Bevel Back weatherboards to the market at very competitive rates and can also run almost any profile as requested.

Grades: We carry a wide range of Radiata #1 and #2 clears in both feedstock and machined profiles.

Durability: We are currently stock both the H3.2 CCA and H3.1 LOSP preservative treatments.

Supply: The vast majority of our Radiata Pine stock is FSC certified.

Coatings
Another important issue is coating your weatherboard to prolong its life.  Western Red Cedar does not require coating but it will age much better and last a lot longer if it is coated and regularly maintained. It is strongly recommended that you coat Radiata Pine to prevent excessive movement.

Most of our Radiata Pine weatherboards are supplied preprimed, however we can coat both Pine and Cedar to your requirements, whether with a stain or paint.  We are finding that more and more people are asking for coated product because it saves time and money on the building site.

Dark Colours: We do recommend that you do not use dark colours for stains and or paints as these attract heat and this exacerbates drying out and shrinkage and swelling. Although blacks and dark colours are trendy they are not going to enhance the life of any cladding.

Nails / Fixings   Soakers
We also stock nails in both Silicon Bronze and Stainless Steel (T316) in a range of commonly used sizes.
We stock 150 and 200mm Soakers for Standard Bevel Back Weatherboards in Copper, Galvanised Steel, and Stainless Steel (T304).
Other profiles and materials are available on request.
