Oak (Quercus spp) is a timber that is typically used for high quality flooring and panelling, high quality furniture, and boat building. It is sometimes known as White Oak.
DISTRIBUTION
White Oaks are a group of closely related species that grow in the central eastern and north eastern States of USA, with the major concentration being in the Appalachian region.
The major species, Quercus alba, is similar to European Oak in both appearance, characteristics, and properties.
The resource is adequate to maintain ready availability to both domestic and international markets.
QUALITY STANDARDS AND GENERAL PROPERTIES
The species is impervious to liquids, and is an excellent cooperage timber.
It easily machines and sands to a high quality finish.
