Cherry Beech
This timber has a attractive pink to red colour, it has been carefully selected and processed under an advanced kiln drying programme to highlight the grain and colour and ensure its stability. It has a fine even texture and is usually straight grained.
Kahikatea
New Zealand's tallest tree, this creamy white,straight grained wood is odourless and was widely used in the past for butter boxes.
Matai
Also known as Black Pine, this very hard and exceptional strong timber is golden brown in colour with sapwood being almost white. Widely used for flooring.
Red Beech
This reddish brown to chocolate brown wood is difficult to dry in boards above 25mm with a high risk of cell collapse.
Rewa Rewa
New Zealand Honeysuckle, Quarter sawn timber has a very striking appearance with a strong ray figure. Timber is a deep red in colour and is difficult to dry with a high rate of shrinkage.
Rimu
One of New Zealand's more famous native timbers. The sapwood is a pale yellowish colour which darkens through an intermediate zone to the reddish brown heartwood, which can be streaked with greyish-brown. It is straight grained with a fine even texture.
Silver Beech
This medium density hardwood is widely used for furniture making, Heartwood is pinkish brown with sapwood being light grey.
Tawa
Sapwood is a creamy white colour with heartwood containing dark brown and black segments. Widely used for flooring.
Totara
Totara is one of New Zealand's most durable timbers. It is ideal for carving because it is straight grained and easy to work.
