Cedrela
Botanical Name: Cedrela odorata
Common Name(s): Spanish Cedar , South American Cedar
Origin: South America
|
| General: |
The heartwood is generally uniform red-brown mahogany colour with a fairly dark red zone marking the growth rings. The grain is usually straight but may be interlocked or wavy and the texture is fine and even. Sometimes contains gum and tension wood. |
| Seasoning: |
Dries fairly easily and without undue degrade. |
| Working: |
The timber works easily but cutting edges must be kept sharpened for end grain working. It can be screwed and glued well. It finishes well but may require grain filling and takes an excellent stain and polish. |

Fine furniture, shop fitting, cabinets, joinery, musical instruments, building, cigar boxes and decorative veneer. |
